Santiago Castro is hoping to gain experience training with his heroes after earning his first call-up to Argentina.

Bologna forward Santiago Castro, 20, has reveal he is looking forward to meeting his 2022 World Cup-winning heroes after being call up to the Argentina squad for the first time.

Castro joined Bologna from Velez Sarsfield in January 2024 and has impressed this season. ‘It was unexpect and because of that I am even happier and I share that,’ Castro said of his first call-up for Argentina. 

Asked how he felt about training with the 2022 World Cup winners, the 20-year-old forward replied: ‘I haven’t really processed it yet. It’s a dream come true.’

‘I can’t wait to go there and train with all the beasts that have given us so much joy in the past. I accept everything that’s going to happen.’

Castro will soon talk to Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni.

“I’m looking forward to doing it. I hope I’ll be ready,” the striker conclude.

Castro holds an Italian passport and was therefore consider for an Azzurri call-up, but Bologna suggested last week that the striker would rather play for his native country.

Castro joined Bologna from Velez in the 2024 January transfer window. He has become a regular starter at the Stadio Dall’Ara this season after Joshua Zirkzee’s move to Manchester United.

Castro’s contract with Bologna runs out in June 2028.
